Feed rate affects surface finish as well. The pass of each cutting edge as the tool advances creates a “cusp” of its own. Therefore, if a smooth surface is the goal, then the same value calculated as the limit of the radial depth should also be applied as the upper limit on the inch-per-tooth feed rate of the tool.
2015. 9. 10. .. i have had many part shapes where semi finish cut is used and final finish cut takes .003" or less AND sfpm and ipt is lower than normal because part vibrates at anything more. end mill finishing i normally use at least 1" dia end mill and when 3" to 4" flute length sfpm and ipt need to be lower the longer the tool sticks out. not unusual to be 300 sfpm and under .002 ipt as longer end
